Taylor Fritz does it! He wins the tiebreaker 8-6, and claims the match, 7-6, 7-6.

Fritz had nine break points across the two sets and couldn’t convert any of them, but it doesn’t matter now!

”It didn’t seem to deter him whatsoever,” Todd Woodbridge said on commentary.

A superb performance from the Americans with both Jessica Pegula and Francis Tiafoe winning earlier in the afternoon.

“It’s great, it’s amazing for the team to win this event,” Fritz said afterwards. 

“We came in with really high hopes … I was really happy to be in that position to clinch the match and the emotions when you win and everyone comes running at you, it’s amazing.

“I don’t know if you saw the replay but Francis basically headbutted me,” he laughed, before adding he was OK.

It was a close-run affair, but Fritz had just enough to see off Berrettini.

“There’s so many matches that could go either way,” he said.

“We were just lucky to be on the winning end, especially in that match. I felt like I had a lot of chances in there and he just kept playing so well.”
